Mayfield Marlins FAQs

When do you swim?

Club nights are held every Friday night in terms 1 and 4 of the school year. Seasons start at the beginning of term 4 each year. Nominations for race nights close at 5pm on the Thursday night before the club night via an App. Nominations can be made on line which automatically enters you each week. You will need to notify us if you are not attending and all swimmers need to sign in on club night before 5:45pm. Races start at 6:00pm on Friday nights. During our season we also usually have two to three interclub carnivals where we race against other local clubs.

Where are the club nights held?

Our 25m six lane pool is located at the Mayfield State School, Paget St Carina.

How old do swimmers have to be?

Our club is very family focused and some of our swimmers are as young as 3 and range up to 16+ years of age. Any swimmers in this age range are welcome.

Do children have to be good swimmers to join the club?

Not necessarily, ability levels vary across the club ranging from our little one’s who compete in 15m races with the assistance of a lifesaver(older swimmer) in the lane with them. (Some even wear back floats while they are improving there skills) At the other end of the scale many of our older swimmers can comfortably swim 100m.

How long are the races?

Races range from 15m to 100m and each week all 4 strokes are offered. The annual Club Hand book outlines the the seasons program as we encourage swimmers to have the opportunity to gain experience in all swimming strokes.

Is it very competitive?

Our focus as a club is on improving swimmers ability and fostering a friendly and enjoyable environment for families. Awards are based around most improved and efforts. While someone wins each race, the real important thing is how much swimmers improve over the season.

Is volunteering required?

Parents and carers are encouraged to participate to help run a successful Club Nights and Carnivals. Active participation not only demonstrates parents as good role models to our children but also strengthens the social camaraderie of the Club. Timekeeping, the canteen and the barbecue all require several parents/carers each Club Night to help run the event smoothly and efficient.

Do I have to be a Mayfield State school student to join?

We welcome swimmers and families from the local community, any local school or pre-school as we are a community based amateur swimming club.
